People in Australia need to see graphs like this, because I am sick to death of all the ignorant comments people make about ‘boat people’. I’m sick of the drivel the media pumps out just to stir people up, such as trashy segments about whether foreigners are stealing our jobs.
These are the cold hard facts people. Asylum seekers who come by boat make up the smallest percentage of illegal immigrants to Australia. Australia is hardly being swamped by asylum seekers. There are more people seeking asylum in Sweden and they have a population of approximately 9 million, yet not once did I ever hear people there complain about them.
I’m sick of seeing the stupid Facebook statuses about how much money asylum seekers get compared to Australians, because the media twists the facts and in essence lies. Sorry the government is throwing millions of dollars at you, unfortunately money doesn’t fucking fall out of the sky. You want more government handouts how about support tax schemes i.e. Carbon Tax and Mining Tax that would allow the government to increase public spending. Don’t get me wrong I do think that the pension is far too low and that they spend too much on baby bonuses and such but that is a completely different matter.
What I’m tired of is hearing how good they have it in detention centres. Yeah because people just loved being locked up for nearly a whole year. People who commit manslaugter sometimes spend less time locked up than them and they actually committed a crime. All these people want is a better life and who can blame them. We fucking invaded their country because we thought it would be a good idea to be a lap dog for the United States. Who would want to live in the country where any second you could get die from a suicide bomber, stepping on a landmine or IED or getting shot? Yes they could apply via the United Nations, where they get stuck in limbo living at some UN camp in squalor conditions for several years not knowing what will happen. These people are desperate, they are risking their lives on the smallest glimmer of hope for a fresh start.
Politicians need to pull their heads out of their asses and actual come up with a viable solution. Tony Abbott needs to stop being the world’s biggest cunt and actual help create a solution instead of negating everything. The Malaysia deal is a joke, yes let’s send them to a country that isn’t a signer of the Declaration of Human Rights. The should cut down on off shore processing it’s the reason why the government spends so much money on them. When you have people locked up for nearly one year, that is a lot of supplies you have to send. That money could be used to build more detention centres within Australia. They need new legislation to help process them faster. The long detention times from all the red tape are why there are high suicide rates, especially among children within the detention centre.
People need to start getting the facts right so I don’t have to read ignorant and stupid comments, as well as argue with idiots about this issue.
