I Feel Like...

King said in an interview that this photograph was taken as he tried to explain to his daughter Yolanda why she could not go to Funtown, a whites-only amusement park in Atlanta. King claims to have been tongue-tied when speaking to her. “One of the most painful experiences I have ever faced was to see her tears when I told her Funtown was closed to colored children, for I realized the first dark cloud of inferiority had floated into her little mental sky.”

I wasn’t really sure whether to post anything or not about 9/11 mainly because I’m unsure how people will respond to it but I’m going to because it’s my blog and I can say what I like.

First thing though, 9/11 was a tragic event there is no denying that. Innocent lives were lost and it really did change the world 10 years ago. I really do feel for those the family and friends of the victims of the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers, Pentagon and in Pennsylvania. Nothing will ever fill the hole that their deaths have left in them.

What I want to say is that 9/11 has unfortunately changed our world, and I honestly do not like how it has changed. I may be an angry person and extremely opinionated doesn’t mean I like all the hate that has been created since the attacks. I understand that people wanted revenge after the attacks but since when has hate and war has ever achieved anything. All this hate is achieving nothing except building a base for more hate and giving people a reason to do unreasonable things. I can understand the war in Afghanistan, I may not like Bush but what could he do. The Taliban were gloating that they were responsible and the world knew the Taliban were based in Afghanistan, it was at the time the only logical solution to them.

But they could have implemented their strategy far better instead of running in blind. And there was definitely no need to invade Iraq, Bush Snr knew the risk and power vacuum that would occur if he took down Saddam Hussein back in the 1991 in the first Gulf War. There was no substancial evidence to begin with to prove that Iraq was a threat to the United States; and now look at the place. It’s basically a fucking failed state. Before the war there were no suicide bombers but now it is fact of everyday life for Iraqis as well as IEDs. Saddam may have been a dictator with an iron grip, and maybe people did want a revolution like that of the current Arab Spring but now you have thousands of Iraqi refugees flewing their war torn country. And then there are all the civilians that have died.

Do not think for one second that I condone terrorism or think the United States deserved this based on comments. Terrorism is terrible and makes me sick and no nation state should ever have to suffer what the United States went through. For me I am against the war in Iraq and Afghanistan. I hate all the hate that has sprouted out from 9/11 and the stereotyping of muslims, and all the backwards ‘nationalism/patriotism’ aka the fuck off we’re full/we grew here you flew here crap. I can’t stand the paranoia and people mindlessly bleating on about border security and terrorism.

Racism is a funny thing, I have just accepted it which is sad but I believe in the human condition. But the thing that strikes me about racism is that only white people get labelled racist really. My parents are bloody racist and they’re Asian, Chinese to be specific; always going on about all the great thing Chinese people have done or going gaga if someone on TV has a remotely Chinese sounding name/looks little Chinese or like just now when there was a news story about a child being killed in the driveway from a reversing car, where they were going on about how white people always do that and just leave their children outside and obviously hinting that their parenting style is inferior to the Asian style. And it fucking shits me to tears.

I don’t condone racism, I hate it but accept it as a fact of life, but I cannot stand the double standards minority groups have. I’ll tell you now Asians are some of the most racist people I’ve ever met, I get shunned at the Asian grocery store because they just know I’ve become ‘westernised’ and in Asia I get the same treatment. And thinking that their specific ethnic group is better than other ethnic groups within Asia. How come minority groups can kick up a stink about racism towards them but it’s ok for them to be racist to others. I’m sorry but you can’t have your cake and eat it.

I’m sorry but you know why there is more and more racism and anti immigration/extremem nationalism it’s because of this. You can’t go around saying poor me everyone is marginalising me but then go around saying how much better your race is. Or not trying to be apart of the community and closing yourself off; everyone as a whole needs to address these integration issues because the less they integrate the more hatred will build. I mean look at Europe in nearly every election that has happened there this year, an extreme nationalist/xenophobic group has managed to get into parliament. It is obviously a problem.

But yes I’m just sick of the double standards and listening to my parents bitch about white people and how Asians are better.
